Living with mental illness?

When we are physically ill we can go to the doctors get treatment and well everyone gets ill no big deal.

However, when our mind is not in a place we want to be we can be scared of seeking help, worried what others will think and not sure what can be done to help.

Everyone has a mind and so everyone can get a mental illness no one is immune and just like physical illness there are treatments and people recover.

People are becoming more open about their own battles with mental illness and it is becoming more common for people to talk about it.

Like a physical health problem it may get worse without treatment so the earlier you speak to someone chances are the earlier you will get better.

COPE support people in the West Glasgow Community Planning area however, there are mental health services throughout Glasgow. For details of services in your area speak to your GP or phone:

Breathing Space 0800 83 85 87

NHS 24 08454 242424

For details of services in your area.

It can be scary and confusing if your mind is just not behaving the way it usually does.

You don’t know how to get it back under control. This can be overcome though with help and support.

You are still you; remember that.

Even if you don’t feel much like yourself just now. You have skills, strengths and coping strategies that maybe you just need reminded of. Having a mental illness is not a weakness and nothing to be ashamed of.

Sometimes even, after a battle with mental illness we walk out the other side even stronger.

However, like any battle its good to have people on your side, so please don’t feel isolated and alone with this, agencies are out there who wish to help. You may also find friends and family are there for you too but just don’t know how to help so seem to ignore your pain.

Agencies can also give you support to help your friends and family understand what is happening.

And if you feel all alone with no one then maybe one of the things to cover with your worker when you link in with services is how to get out and about again and meet people.

People do recover but like that nagging tooth ache eventually you need to go the dentist to get support so why when we have a nagging heartache or mind ache do we suffer alone when there are people to help.

Go on make that call today and start taking steps towards recovery you can do it and there are agencies and people who can help.
